Results from Dark Matter direct detection experiments and their interpretation

Abstract: Identifying the nature of the Dark Matter (DM) in our Universe is one
of the major open
questions in todays astroparticle physics. The search for
interactions of DM particles in
undergound detectors is an important pilar towards this goal. After
an introduction to the DM
problem the hypothesis that DM is a Weakly Interacting Massive
Particle (WIMP) is motivated. I
present the phenomenology of DM direct detection experiments and
discuss recent
developements in the field. I argue that present sensitivities of the
XENON100 experiment are
crucially testing the WIMP hypothesis. Furthermore, I discuss claims
for positive signals
(DAMA, CoGeNT, CRESST) and potential interpretation in terms of DM.
